As a pub owned by a microbrewery we are of course enthusiastic about beer. But we also know that there are people who don't drink alcohol all of the time or at all, or have to drive or don't want to drink at lunchtime or whenever. While we are passionate about beer we are even more passionate about quality so we have tried to bring you good quality everything from fruit juices to coffee from beer to wine and whisky. If you want to come in and drink tea or coffee or juice, that's fine by us.
What we offer:
10 handpumps serving real ale, and yes we keep all 10 on all the time as far as possible, there may be a delay if a cask runs out as we keep our lines scrupulously clean and the guest pumps are cleaned between each cask.
Try before you buy - you can ask for a taster of any of the draught products. We provide tasting notes, but before you commit to a pint or a half we are happy to let you have a taste. Just ask the bar staff.
On the 10 handpumps:
5 Abbeydale beers. Moonshine, Brimstone, Daily Bread and Absolution are regulars. The fifth pump is dedicated to other Abbeydale beers so other regulars will make an appearence here - Matins, Black Mass and Last Rites, as will the Abbeydale Seasonal beers.
5 guest beers - these pumps sell guest beers from microbreweries across Yorkshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire and, as we can get them beers from further afield. Ossett, Saltaire, Titanic, Beartown, Milestone, Grainstore, Fernandes, Boggart Hole, Pictish, Thornbridge, Howardtown will all feature regularly as will the rarer beers from smaller breweries such as Globe Brewery in Glossop, Foxfield in the Lake District, Ashover Brewery from the Peaks and Brunswick from Derby. We will also get beer from further afield from time to time. We have Crouch Vale from Essex, Hanby from Staffordshire, Atomic from Rugby and Tring Brewery in the plan at the moment. On these pumps, we will put 1 cask of a beer and when it has gone, put something different on so you always find new and different beers.
And then....
Bottled beers - we have a range of over 30 Belgian bottle beers and again the warning applies. Many of these are more than 5% ABV and some are more than 10% - that's wine strength. We also have Budvar Dark from the Czech Republic and some bottled ciders. There is a bottled beer and cider menu in a folder in the bar with descriptions and tasting notes for most of the beers. We also stock bottles of low alcohol beer, mainly for the drivers!
Soft drinks - we stock the full range of Looza fruit juices, all 18 flavours. They are wonderful flavourful fruit juices and as well as fairly conventional flavours such as Orange and Mango you can try the more unusual ones such as Strawberry, Passion Fruit, Banana and Blood Orange. Don't get stuck on just one of these, work your way through the range.
Coffees - we have a fabulous coffee machine so the full range of espresso, cappucino and latte are on offer along with teas and hot chocolate. If Ollie is on the bar and you ask him for coffee he will be in heaven. He loves the coffee machine so much he even moved pubs to stay with it and at quiet times will be found cleaning and polishing it.
Other drinks - we have a good range of spirits including a small selection of malt whiskies. Given the managers are Scots and many of the brewery staff are whisky enthusiasts it is only a matter of time before this range increases. We also offer a selection of house wines by the glass or bottle and plan to extend the wine list soon.
